‛Abbasid Copper Mints

(Zeno category http://www.zeno.ru/showgallery.php?cat=2926 ― Copper Coinage)

An updated version compiled by V. Nastich.

General Specification

* The proposed list of provinces was primarily intended as composed following the direction “west-to-east” and then “south-to north”. However, some of them could not be enumerated in the strict order. Actually the accepted sequence is generally based on the most profound type corpus “Early Abbasid Coinage” by N.Lowick, to which we only added a few amendments, e.g. separating Syria from Palestine, &sim.
We kindly ask the community to review the suggested matter and will be thankful for any positive criticism and reasonable alterations.

Detailed List of Mint Names

** The information encountered in separate sources about some mints that allegedly struck copper coins in the Abbasid period (e.g. Faramâ in Egypt, Salâmiyyah in Syria, Abawân or Aywân, al-‛Abbâsiyah and al-Sâmiyah in Iraq, al-Ahwâz in Khuzistan, Farghânah in Mawara’annahr, etc.) looks controversial and cannot be confirmed by more reliable evidence, so these mints are by far omitted from the list.
